New homes in Ashford
Berberis Place is an exclusive residential development of only 12 homes by Pentland Homes, situated in the picturesque village of Shadoxhurst, Kent. For many, country life evokes images of fresh air, leisurely walks, scenic views and charming village communities. Jessica and Josh Nicholls are one such couple opting for the pleasures of rural life, having relocated from the town centre of Ashford, Kent to a new home at Berberis Place in Shadoxhurst. There are two properties remaining to purchase at this rural development, with prices starting at £450,000.
Berberis Place is a small, boutique development of 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes in Shadoxhurst, in the Kent Weald. The village of Shadoxhurst is locally known as “the woodland gateway to the countryside” and is surrounded by ancient woodlands and attractive rural farmland.
Shadoxhurst residents Jessica and husband Josh, moved to the village in August, having previously lived in Ashford after their wedding in 2012. Office Manager Jessica comments; “I’m Kent born and bred; I love living near the countryside and sea. After getting married we bought a two-bedroom flat in Ashford, but we felt the time was right to upsize and move out of the town centre. Josh’s parents moved to Shadoxhurst in January; we saw the signs for the development whilst driving and my colleague had sung Pentland Homes’ praises, so we decided to have a look.”
“An important factor for both of us was the size of the development. Berberis Place has only 12 private homes, whereas other new build schemes we visited felt too crowded. We knew we didn’t want to be on a massive built up estate and loved the country look and feel of Berberis Place.”
Jessica and Josh purchased a two-bedroom semi-detached home in the “Ashley” style, spanning
887 sq. ft, with off-street parking and a car barn. Their home features a designer kitchen with integrated Bosch appliances, living and dining area and French doors leading to the garden. Josh remarks; “We love the layout of the house. The rooms are spacious, the cupboards, tiles and appliances put in are at a very high standard and great quality.”
Jessica adds; “Our favourite part of the house is the garden. It is so much bigger than a lot of the other new builds we looked at, plus the design and plants already put in are beautiful. It has heaps of potential as it’s a large canvas for us to work on.”
Founded over 50 years ago, local housebuilder Pentland Homes have an appreciation for the conservation of Kent’s natural beauty. The new development emphasises sustainability, placing an ecological corridor around Berberis Place and a wildlife protection area on the development.
Josh, who owns an electrical company covering South London and Kent, remarks; “Having grown up in South London, I love living in the countryside and being able to see fields from our house. I enjoy the buzz of London but don’t miss living there at all; we’re surrounded by beautiful countryside and can still walk to the pub in a couple of minutes! We originally reserved a different two-bedroom house on the site, but this end plot became available and we jumped at the chance to buy it. I had my eyes on it from day one!”
Jessica comments; “We cannot thank the team at Pentland enough for all of their support, friendliness, attention to detail and for making the whole experience an enjoyable and exciting one. They were a delight to deal with and added that extra touch, making each stage of the process feel less stressful.”
Although surrounded by acres of stunning scenery, Shadoxhurst is only a 12-minute drive to Ashford International Station, with high speed connections to St. Pancras International taking 36 minutes. Ashford International Station also operates frequent Eurostar services for visiting Europe.
